meem, Scotland’s Muslim Consultancy, is proud to announce Scotland’s 1st Annual Muslim Awards (SAMA) ceremony taking place later this year.
The awards are aimed specifically for Muslims to help build confidence within the community and to recognise Muslim achievements, successes and contribution to Scotland’s development overall.

- There are approximately 60,000 Muslims in Scotland
- Muslims form the 2nd largest religious group in Scotland
- Muslims are the most ethnically diverse group in terms of nationality, culture and backgrounds
- 95% follow Islam as fairly to very important in the way they live their lives
- 34 per cent of Muslims were aged under 16 in 2001
- A fifth of Muslims were self-employed in 2004, against one in ten elsewhere
- 52 per cent of Muslims owned their home in 2001
- Unemployment among Muslim men was 14 per cent in 2004, the highest rate in Britain
- Unemployment among Muslim women was 15 per cent, against 4 per cent nationally
- Since 2003 the Islamic mortgage market has grown to £500 million
- The UK Halal industry is worth about £700 million
